How will it work?

This will last 15-30 minutes and will take place over the telephone. During this conversation we will explore together what you want to achieve and how we can help you do that. We will establish what information or records you already have and in readiness for you signing up to the short course we will plan how that information can be shared before your first session.

Each session of the course will last approx 90 minutes, Past Tense can offer flexibility so that each session fits around your schedule. The course concludes with you being able to choose from a number of styles and have printed the tree that you have created.

Note: During the initial consultation Past Tense will aim to establish the viability of proceeding with the course. Factors considered might include whether you have Zero information to offer as a starting point, a heritage that is outside of the scope of Past Tense, known barriers to research such as adoption or illegitimacy where parentage might be hard to establish.

Session 1:
Creating your own FREE Family History Research account including a brief discussion of how this account will work for you.
Gathering the information you already have – names and dates of birth for example and then learning how to add that information into your account.

Session 2:
Learning how to expand your tree outward into earlier generations.
How to use records that back up your research inc. birth, marriage, death, censuses, military records, immigration records etc.

Session 3:
Learn how to attach records such as censuses, birth, marriage, and death records to an individual in your account.
Learn how to add photographs and record memories. A wonderful way of preserving information for future generations.

Session 4:
Troubleshooting and how to resolve issues

Session 5:
How are you doing?
An opportunity to evaluate your progress. Is your tree complete to 4 generations? How can you continue with your research and get back even further? Would you like to concentrate on one particular line? Would you like to add spouses, children and siblings to the names already in place to create more complete family groups?

Session 6:
Round up and hand over, ensuring that you are confident and happy to continue using your Family History account.

If you are completing the 6 session course only option, then we will also discuss how you would like an a4 copy of the tree you have created. You can select the type of tree you would like and either Past Tense can print this and post it to you, or we can show you how you can do this for yourself.

If you opted for the 6 session course plus an A3 print of your tree, you will now be able to select the style of tree you would like, and this will be professionally printed and posted to you.

Cost of course: £270.
Payment schedule: Full cost of course to be paid after the initial consultation and in advance of Session 1.

Further sessions after completion of the first 6 can be arranged ad hoc and will be charged at £45 per session.
